Luka Doncic was on the verge of having yet another stellar year after five impressive seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. However, the NBA star has been largely inactive this season, missing 16 games so far.

With two just two games left to break the mark of the league's regulation for NBA awards, Doncic's chance to continue an impressive streak would soon come to an end. The Mavs star has been ruled out for the game against the Denver Nuggets on Monday, January 11, his 17th absence this season.

Dallas will play Denver again on January 13, and Doncic will again be absent, eventually ending any consideration for a regular season award and All-NBA selections.

Luka Doncic has made five consecutive All-NBA First Team selections. With impressive numbers already on the stat board this season, Doncic had every chance to make the cut for the sixth consecutive time.

LeBron James and Utah Jazz legend Kar Malone hold the record for the most consecutive All-NBA selections. They are tied for 11 consecutive All-NBA First team selections.

Luka Doncic suffered a calf injury in the Christmas Game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. After the 105-99 loss, the team announced that the Mavs star would be evaluated after a month.

Luka Doncic diagnoses the reason kids are walking away from basketball and sports

In a changing technological world, a lot seems to be different. While sports has always been a source of entertainment and joy, both for people as players and fans, the current generation is veering away from it, and Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic might have hit the bullseye.

Doncic and The Luka Doncic Foundation launched The All Hoops Approach to help kids remain in touch with sports. While discussing the idea for the new initiative, Doncic shed light on what is missing from sports today:

"Kids are walking away from youth basketball because we’ve replaced joy with pressure," Doncic said. "When we treat young players like pros, we lose the friendship, growth and fun that make sports special. This has to change."

Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard agreed big time with Doncic. He reposted a post by @acoachsdiary on his Instagram story and echoed the Mavs star statement.

"Big big facts," Lillard wrote. "It's a problem."

Doncic started playing basketball at a very young age. He turned out for Olimpija in Slovenia when he was just 8 years old. At 13, Doncic had already signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid.
