The Lakers won 106-102, led by Doncic's big game. It was also Doncic’s 26th birthday on Friday and he finished with 31 points, five assists and two rebounds in 35 minutes.
Luka Doncic gets honest while reflecting on making the NBA Finals and changing teams
Following the LA Lakers' win over the LA Clippers, a reporter asked Luka Doncic to reflect on the past year of his life. Within 12 months, he led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA finals and was in February. Doncic had a simple answer when he reflected on everything that had happened recently.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s all good," Doncic said in the postgame presser. "I’m happy, it’s all the best. I have a little daughter, my family’s good. The people around me are good, so that’s everything I want.”
After being held to less than 17 points in his first three appearances for LA, Doncic has turned things around. He has averaged 25.8 points, 10.0 rebounds and 7.3 assists in his last four outings, including 30-point performances against the Clippers and the Denver Nuggets.
The Lakers have won five straight and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. However, Doncic's shooting percentages are still below his career averages.
Doncic is shooting 46.8%, including 34.6% from beyond the arc in his career. Over his first seven games with LA, he has only shot 37.3% and 24.1% of his 3-pointers. Doncic and the Lakers are one game behind the Nuggets for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
It’ll be interesting to see how far the team can go once Doncic starts to perform up to his usual standards. The Lakers will be back in action on Sunday for a rematch against the LA Clippers.
