Luka Doncic had a milestone night as he led the LA Lakers to a handsome 136-115 win over the New Orleans Pelicans at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. The mercurial guard overcame an injury scare to give the Purple and Gold an electric start with a team-high 20 points in the first half.

Doncic had a mixed start to the contest making a free throw, a couple of buckets, and a turnover. This included a scare when the guard hit the deck hard and was visibly in pain as his head hit the floor.

Later, he turned on the jets with a couple of 3s and some scintillating plays as LA maintained the lead. Doncic's assists were the highlight with Jaxson Hayes reaping the benefits with a season-high 19 points after sinking all the lobs that came his way in just the first half.

He ended the game with 10 more points in the second half while also dishing out 15 assists to join an elite list comprising Jerry West, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James as the only Lakers players to have a game with 30+ points and 15 dimes.

The focus was on LeBron James breaching the 50,000-point mark, and the 40-year-old achieved the massive milestone with a 3-pointer.

Doncic came into the game averaging 22.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.5 blocks in his eight games so far for the Lakers. Overall, he is averaging 26.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 7.5 apg while shooting 44.7% from the field and 33.9% from beyond the arc.

Lakers insider hopeful that Luka Doncic leans into LeBron James' conditioning

Luka Doncic's conditioning has been a constant topic of discussion despite the 25-year-old finding his groove offensively with the LA Lakers. In a recent episode of "Run It Down", Lakers insider Sam Amick of The Athletic hoped that Doncic would look at his teammate LeBron James' conditioning and work on it to keep himself in top shape/

"There is certainly a narrative that Luka is going to physically fall apart physically...the Lakers are certainly hoping that Luka leans into LeBron and picks up on his habits."

For now, Luka Doncic is a constant in the team's injury report as he works his way back to full strength after losing six weeks to a calf injury. Only time will tell if the Slovenian star's fitness can stay intact as LA looks to be bona fide title contenders.
