Magic Johnson reacts to death of longtime sports analyst Greg Gumbel
Before posting about the events that transpired in New Orleans, Magic Johnson reflected on a tragic death in the sports world - the death of longtime TV analyst Greg Gumbel.
Gumbel, 78, spent over 50 years in the broadcasting field. He primarily covered the NFL and college basketball, working for networks like NBC and CBS Sports.
After seeing the news last week, Magic Johnson posted an elongated post in Gumbel's honor. He applauded his very successful career along with giving condolences to the family members he has left behind.
"I’m saddened to hear about the passing of longtime and legendary broadcaster and friend Greg Gumbel. Greg was an African-American pioneer. He spent over 50 years in sports broadcasting - as one of the first studio hosts and in the broadcast booth for the NFL, March Madness, and more. Cookie and I are praying for his wife Marcy, daughter Michelle, brother Bryant, and the entire Gumbel family during this difficult time."
During his time on air, Gumble had the chance to cover some of the biggest games across all sports. He worked on multiple Super Bowls, NCAA Final Fours and the Olympics.
Seeing that his career spanned over five decades, Johnson was one of many people in the sports world to speak on Gumble following his death.
