The Dallas Mavericks' matchup versus the Phoenix Suns came with immense drama during the game. At the 9:02 mark in the third quarter, a physical altercation broke out between Phoenix big man Jusuf Nurkic, Mavericks players Naji Marshall and PJ Washington.
Nurkic attempted to back down Daniel Gafford but was called for an offensive foul, prompting a reaction from Naji Marshall, who was looking to defend his teammate. Nurkic swiped at Marshall's face and the fifth-year guard returned a punch, which connected. Washington shoved Nurkic after Marshall's punch landed, causing him to fall.
After the game, Marshall took to Instagram to confront fans defending Nurkic.

One fan referred to Marshall's punch as "weak" to which he responded,
"So come stand in front of 1."
Another fan commented, "Strike 1 for Marshall, swing and a miss.. These basketball players can't fight for s**t!"
"Let me try on you then," Marshall responded to the fan.
Dallas went on to take down the Suns 98-89 despite 35 points from Kevin Durant.
Naji Marshall, PJ Washington, Jusuf Nurkic disciplined for scuffle
On Saturday, the NBA disciplined Naji Marshall, PJ Washington and Jusuf Nurkic for the altercation, announcing each player's punishment. The NBA released a statement regarding the matter.
Naji Marshall received a four-game suspension without pay for throwing the punch. Jusuf Nurkic was suspended for three games without pay for swiping at Marshall.
PJ Washington also received a one-game suspension for "escalating the on-court altercation," per the report.
Marshall and Nurkic each received double-technical fouls for the scuffle, and Washington was called for a technical. All three players were ejected from the matchup. Due to Dallas receiving an additional technical for Washington's involvement, Phoenix was awarded the technical free throws, which Kevin Durant connected on.
The altercation wasn't enough for a Mavericks collapse, despite scoring just 17 points in the third quarter. At the time of the scuffle, Dallas boasted a 15-point lead just three minutes into the second half. The Mavericks advanced to 20-11 on the year, while Phoenix fell to 15-15.
