There has been some discussion about the future of D'Angelo Russell with the Lakers. A few months before the new season commences, Russell was seen alongside former Celtics guard Rajon Rondo at his basketball camp. Given the potential in JJ Redick's vision for the team as the new head coach, several NBA fans fantasized about the possibility of having Rondo part of the coaching staff.

Interestingly, Rondo's name has been included in several coaching reports but has yet to come to fruition. Lakers star LeBron James even talked about the upside in his former teammate dabbling his hand in coaching. As of now, there remains no official report on Rondo's plans regarding that kind of career move.

The picture of the two was shared on X by user LakeShowYo (@LakeShowYo) and user Icey (@IceyDLO), and several fans shared their reactions.

"DLo meeting his assistant coach for next season," a fan commented.

Moreover, X user QueGates (@QueGates) urged the Lakers guard to opt-in to his player option.

"He need to camp into that option," the fan posted.

Additionally, X user Eric (@ikeryder13) believes that Rajon Rondo would be a great development coach to hone D'Angelo Russell's skills.

"I don't have an issue with keeping DLo but he must improve two areas. Defense and decision making. Rondo is the perfect coach to help him," the fan posted.

Meanwhile, X user @cordariousred1 didn't take much from Russell and Rondo linking up as he highlighted the possibility that the Lakers guard will be in the Nets or the Magic in the foreseeable future.

"Means nothing. They're friends is all. DLo will be a Net or Magic soon," the fan posted.

X user @LBJcrib envisioned Rondo as a fit with the Lakers coaching staff.

"Coach Rondo getting ready," the fan posted.

Be that as it may, it remains to be seen if Rondo will ever consider being a coach at some time in the future.

Lakers guard talked about looking up to Rajon Rondo's competitive nature

Originally, Rondo started making his mark in the league while playing for the Boston Celtics. He was integral in helping the team capture the NBA championship in 2008 and has been renowned for his sharp intellect on the court as a decision-maker.

Aside from his playmaking ability, D'Angelo Russell said on his "The Backyard" podcast in March how he was in awe growing up watching Rondo's fiery competitive spirit.

"He [Rondo] was one of those guys I would just like watch, and he probably didn't know I was watching," Russell said. "I mean, like, I seen how he answers s***. I seen how he talks about his opponents. ... I seen him compete against LeBron in those playoff matchups. He's a guy that I learned a lot from that sense... like — ultra competitor."

For any aspiring prospect hoping to make it to the NBA, there are several players to idolize. Coming from the same hometown, Russell had that connection to Rondo and considered him the standard for success and excellence.

Playing in the same position was the cherry on top as the Lakers guard is known as a quality passer and playmaker, which are evident skills he took from the former Celtics guard.

Both players might not be the flashiest athletes on the court but they more than make up for it with how they compete at a high level daily.
