Memphis Grizzlies depth chart for 2024-25 NBA season after drafting Zach Edey

The Memphis Grizzlies acquired Purdue's star center Zach Edey as the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Edey was a star performer in the last NCAA tournament and his performance caught the eyes of a lot of teams. He was the non-U-Conn player to make the final four all-tournament team.

Edey's arrival is bound to shake things up on the Grizzlies roster, the 7-foot-3 has won the college Player of the Year award twice and is extremely dominant in the paint. He has no direct competition on the squad if the Memphis Grizzlies decide to play him as a traditional center.

However, Lama Stevens and Santi Aldama could see lesser game times if he is tasked to play as a power forward for the team.

The arrival of Zach Edey poses no threat to the Grizzlies' star players. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. are still expected to headline the franchise as they fulfill a different role on the team.

The Memphis Grizzlies acquired Edey to patch the defensive hole in their roster that was exploited by other teams last season. They were in desperate need of a solid rim protector who could collect offensive rebounds and slam them in the basket.

Edey checked all the boxes for that role and also had a great showing of his abilities during his collegiate career.

Fans react to Memphis Grizzlies drafting Zach Edey

The Grizzlies made a post on the official X account announcing their decision to draft Zach Edey as the ninth overall pick and welcoming him to the squad.

The fans were excited to hear the announcement and flooded the comments section with their thoughts.

"Great pick, great guy. Just gained a Memphis fan here," @dkelly7 said.

"I really love this .. Jaren can play PF Strictly."

"AMAZING PICK I LOVE YALL SO MUCH," @BIGMEM12 said.

While some comments supported the decision of the front office to bring in Edey to fulfill the big-man role on the squad, others were not happy with the pick and expressed their dissatisfaction.

"Horrible Decision front office."

"This is almost as bad as the falcons drafting penix," @omsportsburner said.

Edey's draft decision has received a mixed response from the Memphis Grizzles fans and the only way the Purdue star can change it is by proving himself when the 2024-25 season starts.
