Josh Christopher and the Miami Heat pulled off an OT thriller to clinch the Summer League Final vs the Memphis Grizzlies in Las Vegas on Monday (July 22). The Heat recorded a 120-119 victory to win their maiden SL title in franchise history. The marquee contest saw Miami outscore Memphis seven to five in overtime to reach the target score of 120.
The Heat Summer League side notched up a clinical 6-0 record over the past few weeks, as they outplayed the Golden State Warriors in the semifinal and the Grizzlies in the championship.
The final game saw plenty of action and was a humdinger with Grizzlies guard GG Jackson II nailing a game-tying shot in the final seconds to push the contest to OT. Both teams traded baskets before a Pelle Larsson bucket handed the Heat the win.
Miami will be impressed with how their 2024 draft class rookie Kel'el Ware has fared this summer. The former Indiana star propped up 21 points in the final and has been solid with his two-way play. Meanwhile, Christopher will hope that his strong performances (19.3 points per game in six games) will help land a roster spot with the Heat this upcoming NBA season.
