Miami Heat Injury Report (Jan. 15): Latest on Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo's availability

The Miami Heat will be without superstar Jimmy Butler as he continues to serve his seven-game suspension when they play the LA Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday. Their center Bam Adebayo is also a doubtful starter as he's listed as questionable with a lower back contusion.

Adebayo did not suit up for the Heat's last game against the LA Clippers with veteran big Kevin Love replacing him in the lineup. Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Haywood Highsmith have been on the frontcourt duty in Butler's absence. Per The Athletic's James Jackson, Miami’s next game with Butler in the starting unit would be on Friday, when they host the Denver Nuggets (23-15) after wrapping their six-game road trip.

NBPA plans on filing a grievance on Jimmy Butler's behalf following seven-game suspension by the Heat

Earlier, the National Basketball Players Association released a statement that it would file for grievance after the Miami Heat imposed the seven-game suspension on Jimmy Butler citing "multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team over the course of the season and particularly the last several weeks."

In their statement, the NBPA wrote:

"The seven-game suspension imposed tonight by the Miami Heat on Jimmy Butler is excessive and inappropriate, and we intend to file a grievance challenging the discipline."

Amid all of this, Jimmy Butler's future in Miami continues to remain in doubt even as reports of potential suitors reaching out to the Heat front office does the rounds. Per NBA insider Shams Charania, Butler reportedly told team president Pat Riley that he still wants to be traded in a face-to-face sitdown.

Charania added that Butler also reportedly told Riley that he won't sign an extension and will use his $52 million player option for the next season as a way to help facilitate the trade. Things took an ugly turn in the Butler trade sage when the 35-year-old was public in his take of wanting a change of place and prefers to be moved before the Feb. 6 deadline.

Only time will tell if Jimmy Butler will finish his season with the Heat or find a new home. For now, the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and the LA Lakers are looked at as likely teams in the mix to land the veteran forward. Butler is averaging 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists this season.
