Michael Jordan's son hails Klay Thompson as the GOAT after his soul-stirring farewell note to Warriors fans goes viral 

Klay Thompson has penned his farewell message to Golden State Warriors fans. After spending 13 years with the team, the shooting guard has agreed to join the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal.

Thompson already made his first public appearance since the deal was reported, attending the Michael Rubin all-white party.

Thompson took to Instagram today to share a farewell message to the fans who cheered for him for over a decade, thanking them for the support and the Warriors franchise for the time spent together.

"Oh Bay Area , there are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about yall . From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from day 1. I really just wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships as possible to the region.

"The best part was not the rings though, it was the friendships I made that will last a lifetime . My family and I would like to thank all of the amazing people who work tirelessly to make the @warriors organization world-class. Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened . Until we meet again. Klay received a lot of comments underneath this post, including a simple but strong one from Michael Jordan's son, Marcus. The businessman -- and offspring of the man widely considered the greatest of all time -- used the goat emoji to hype up Klay, calling him a GOAT for his time with the Warriors.

Chris Broussard explains why Klay Thompson picked Mavericks over the Lakers

FOX Sports analyst Chris Broussard shed light on Klay Thompson's decision to join the Dallas Mavericks over the LA Lakers. According to the analyst, Klay wanted to play for the team he felt would fit his style of play best.

“Before he had talked to teams or met with anybody, Dallas was his first choice. He had watched film. He thought he’d be a great basketball fit.”

He added that Thompson probably thought the Mavericks offered the best chance to win another NBA championship.

“I do think, rightly, he felt like this is the best place for him,” Broussard said.

“I don’t put that on the Lakers. Also, there are some that are likely going to say ‘Oh he didn’t want to play with LeBron.’ Here's the thing, the same things that if like some players not wanting to play for LeBron or whatever, that’s been said about Luka (Doncic) too.”

Klay Thompson will now team up with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Dallas. After the Mavs lost in the 2024 NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics, Klay could be the piece they need to win their second NBA title.
