Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dr. Doom for the fifth edition of the Avengers series. This comes after his character 'Iron Man' was martyred in "Avengers: Endgame." Clutch Points reposted MCU's dramatic revelation of the news on X, formerly Twitter, and asked NBA fans to explain Downey's return in basketball terms.
Fans shared various responses, with most of them highlighting the return of NBA legend Michael Jordan to the league after his retirement.

Many others also highlighted hypothetical situations involving other NBA stars which they claimed would explain the return of Downey to the MCU as Dr. Doom.
"Kobe Bryant coming back to life and playing for the Celtics," a fan said.
"Lebron retiring then joining Boston and three peating with em," one fan tweeted.

It remains to be seen if Dr. Doom can be as popular with Marvel fans as Jordan was in his NBA playing days.
Michael Jordan's return to the NBA after retirement
Similar to how Robert Downey Jr. is regarded in the MCU, Michael Jordan is viewed as one of the NBA's greatest players of all time. The former Chicago Bulls star was drafted by the team third overall in 1984 but it wasn't until seven years later that he led the Bulls to their first NBA championship in 1991.
He led Chicago to consecutive wins in 1992 and 1993, clinching their first three-peat, before retiring from the league for the first time in October 1993. After a stint with the MLB's Chicago White Sox, Jordan returned to the NBA in March 1995 and led the Bulls to their second three-peat run, winning the 1996-1998 NBA titles.
After capping his second three-peat run with the Bulls, the six-time NBA Finals MVP retired for the second time in January 1999. In January 2000, Michael Jordan returned to the NBA not as a player but as part owner and president of basketball operations for the Washington Wizards.
Though he claimed that he wouldn't play another game in the NBA, Jordan made another comeback in September 2001 and played for the Wizards for two years. However, while playing for the Wizards, the NBA legend did not see any of his previous success and retired for the final time in April 2003.
