DeRozan was one of the big names that made a splash in this summer's free agency. After being linked to the LA Lakers and the Miami Heat, DeMar DeRozan signed a three-year, $73.7 million deal with the Kings. The three-team trade saw the Kings land the decorated forward, while the Bulls received Chris Duarte, two second-round picks, and cash. The third team was the San Antonio Spurs receiving Harrison Barnes and an unprotected 2032 pick swap.
DeMar DeRozan talks about mentoring young blood ahead of Kings stint
Speaking to The Athletic soon after his trade, DeMar DeRozan was asked about being the experienced campaigner in the Kings locker room, and the forward said he was keen on taking on the responsibility of mentoring the young names.
“I take pride in that. Just giving whatever experience in life that I’ve been through, sharing that and giving any type of gems that I can give to help avoid any type of pitfall that someone else could go through if they haven’t been through something. I’ve been through a lot on and off the court that I feel like I can share. Any experience that I can give, I’ll try to give it all because I want the best for anybody I work with or play with and I want them to thrive the best way they can.”
The Kings cement themselves as legitimate title contenders with DeMar DeRozan in the mix. Clutch star De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis have been their mainstay for a few seasons now, and with the likes of Malik Monk in the mix, the Kings are a dangerous unit this season. Only time will tell if they will make a title run this time around.
