The general opinion of the community goes in line with Perkins' thought as the fans did find this year's NBA Finals to be less exciting. It was a one-sided series with the Boston Celtics dominating the Mavericks in every single game. Boston established an early advantage in the series commanding a lead of 3-0 in the series. They needed only one game to close the series and become NBA champions for the 18th time.

The Mavs struck back in Game 4 and defeated them with a final score of 122-84, the third-highest win margin in NBA Finals history. They kept their chances alive at the Target Center and went into TD Garden for Game 5, hoping to make a memorable comeback.

However, the Celtics' desire to win overpowered the Mavericks' iron will as they closed out the series at Game 5 to become the 2023-24 NBA Champions.
