"My money is on Doc Rivers": NBA fans sound off as Bulls' coach leads hot seat odds to be fired this season

Online sportsbook Bovada recently published a list of coaches most likely to be fired this season, which was shared by a popular basketball page on X (formerly Twitter). According to the list, Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan was deemed the most likely to lose his job, with other names like Doc Rivers, Willie Green and Chauncey Billups also featured.

The odds of the Bulls coach getting fired were set at +400. Green, Billups, Quin Synders and Rivers rounded out the top five.

While Donovan led the list, some fans speculated in the comments of an NBA Central post that Rivers should be the favorite and poked fun at the Bucks' coach.

"My money is on Doc Rivers. His odds are too low tbh. Bang for the buck."

"Doc rivers being only +900 is insane value," one said.

"Doc-Rivers is top 5 already," another added.

Another fan insisted that Rivers should have held the top spot on the list:

"Who’s making these odds? doc river should be number 1 on this list!!" @Joakimmuse said.

"Doc rivers at +900😂😂," one said.

"Doc should be -2000," another added.

Rivers took the helm for the Milwaukee Bucks from Adrian Griffin midway through the 2023-24 season. However, his takeover didn't result in a great success, as the team tallied an 18-20 record under him.

The Rivers-led Bucks' postseason also resulted in disappointment, as they were eliminated in six games in the first round by the Indiana Pacers.

Doc Rivers drops his opinion on the firing of Lakers' former coach Darwin Ham

Ahead of the Lakers' visit to the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee last week, Doc Rivers dropped his opinion on the Lakers' firing of their former coach Darwin Ham. Rivers said he did not understand why Ham, who is now his assistant in Milwaukee, was fired despite producing winning results for the Lakers.

"He took a team to the Western (Conference) Finals, and then the following year he won the In-Season Tournament, which they say we should have a lot of value on, and then they release him. It literally makes no sense," Rivers said.

Darwin Ham was fired on May 3 after the Lakers failed to make it past the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs. The Ham-led Lakers also lost to the Nuggets in last year's playoffs. Former NBA star JJ Redick has been appointed as the new head coach of the Lakers after the firing of Ham.
