On Friday, Victor Wembanyama had prevailed over the 3x MVP in the Spurs 113-110 win on the road. This time there was no stopping Nikola Jokic who put up a near triple-double to seal victory.

The Serbian superstar tallied 46 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in the game, saving his best for the overtime period where he scored nine points on his own.

On the other team, Victor Wembanyama fell short despite recording 20 points, 23 rebounds, three assists and four blocks. Unlike Jokic Wembanyama went ice cold in down the stretch and was held scoreless in overtime.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson reflects on Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama's epic duel

The Nuggets (20-14) improved to fourth place in the West following their win at the Frost Bank Center. After the previous game, head coach Michael Malone had lamented his team's lackadaisical fourth quarter which allowed the Spurs to erase a five point deficit in the dying minutes.

Mitch Johnson had to do the same after Victor Wembanyama's heroics were not enough to help the Spurs win on Saturday night. The 38-year-old coach has been calling the shots in Gregg Popovich's absence, who is recovering from a stroke he suffered in November. Johnson reflected on his team's loss in the post game press conference.

"I thought there was a couple of times throughout the game, we were a little indecisive. I mean, it's always Joker being Joker. But I think when you get in between or are aggressive to at least force him his hand it's something then you are just as mercy when you give him multiple options, or, you know, things to choose off the menu. But yeah, for the most part, I think we still get made him work pretty hard. I was probably more disappointed tonight in our offense, especially in the fourth quarter. Just felt like we got a little stagnant in mud"

After splitting the two-game mini series one game a piece, the Spurs will travel to Chicago to face the Bulls on Monday night.
