After a historic rookie campaign, Victor Wembanyama continues to develop night-in and night-out in his sophomore season. The second-year big is eyeing a playoff run in year two and is willing the San Antonio Spurs to close victories.
On Thursday night, San Antonio stymied the red-hot Atlanta Hawks, who won seven of their last nine games coming into their matchup versus the Spurs. In a high-scoring clash, San Antonio outlasted Atlanta 133-126 in overtime.
Wembanyama erupted for a game-high 42 points, adding six rebounds, five assists, four blocks and two steals in the win. His video game-like performance caused a commotion from fans on X/Twitter, drawing praise for his big night.

"Wemby" nearly notched a career night versus Atlanta with a dominant performance. The potential first-time All-Star fell eight points short of his career-high of 50 points, which he set just last month on Nov. 13 versus the Washington Wizards.
Wembanyama finished with 42 points, six rebounds, five assists, four blocks and two steals, shooting 13-of-24 from the field and 7-of-15 from beyond the arc. Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan also stepped up in the win, combining for 43 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks. Vassell finished with 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, connecting on 5-of-7 3-pointers.
Meanwhile, Sochan finished with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out four assists and swatting two shots in his big performance. With their win versus Atlanta, the Spurs move to 14-13 on the season, winning three of their last four since coming off a three-game losing streak coming into the month.
Wembenyama and Co. host the Portland Trail Blazers next at AT&T Center on Saturday.
