Concerning lob-sided trades in NBA history, the Paul Pierce/Kevin Garnett trade to the Brooklyn Nets is among the first mentioned. Over a decade since the blockbuster move, the duo is being compared to a recent shake-up in the NFL.

After requesting a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, Davante Adams is heading to the New York Jets. This will be a reunion, as he'll share the field with Aaron Rodgers again.

Earlier in their respective careers, Rodgers and Adams were among the top quarterback-wide receiver duos in the league. However, both are past their primes now. Knowing this, NBA fans have compared this duo reuniting to Pierce and KG being on the Nets.

Other fans tried to defend the comparison, stating that the Nets were a playoff team after adding the two former All-Stars.

"I mean that Nets team made the playoffs. So…" One fan tweeted on X, formerly Twitter.
"And Lazard is Jason Terry," another fan tweeted.
"Ppl did this to Brady n Gronk going to Tampa and they won the SB that year," one fan tweeted.

Why is the Paul Pierce/Kevin Garnett trade one of the most lob-sided in NBA history?

Numerous factors make the Paul Pierce/Kevin Garnett trade one of the worst in NBA history. However, the thing that stands out the most is that it continues to get worse over time.

For starters, the Brooklyn Nets went all in on stars way past their prime. At the time of the trade, Pierce and Garnett were in their late 30s and far from the stars who led the Boston Celtics to a championship in 2008.

Aside from their age, the Nets parted with multiple first-round picks for guys who spent one season with the team. Pierce left for the Washington Wizards in free agency in 2014, and Garnett was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves mid-way through the 2015 campaign.

The Nets made this trade hoping to contend for an NBA title, but it didn't play out that way. In the lone season following this "blockbuster," Brooklyn won 44 games and got eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Miami Heat.

None of these factors make this trade so bad. What takes the cake is that the Nets allowed the Celtics to build a dynasty with the picks they sent over. Since Brooklyn quickly plummeted in the standings, their first-round picks were worth their weight in gold. Thanks to this trade with the Nets, the Celtics eventually drafted Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Years later, the Celtics have formed a title-winning team with players they drafted with a pick acquired in this trade. Meanwhile, the Nets are in their second rebuild since making the deal.
