Ben Simmons has never been known for being a good free throw shooter during his career. It has even reached a point where Simmons does not want to attack the basket, with rumors saying that he's afraid of getting fouled and shooting free throws.
An Eastern Conference coach told Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com the story of how Bradley Beal tried to bet $20,000 with Simmons. It happened when Simmons was still with the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Washington Wizards were intentionally fouling him.
"Ben and Beal had this sort of animated conversation," the coach said. "Ben said, 'I'm tired of you motherf***ers fouling me on purpose, man. I'm going to step up here and knock these two down. $5,000 says I will.' To which Beal replied, 'You wanna make it 20 (thousand)?'
"And then he went up and bricked one. I don't think he said another word."

Brooklyn Nets expected to explore trading Ben Simmons this offseason
The Brooklyn Nets hit the reset button at the trade deadline. They traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, while Kevin Durant was dealt to the Phoenix Suns. The only remaining player from one of the most disappointing eras of Nets basketball is Ben Simmons.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports, the Nets are expected to gauge Simmons' value in the offseason. The LSU product has been pretty disappointing in his first full season in Brooklyn. He has more lows than highs despite playing a good chunk of his time with Irving and Durant.
However, Simmons might be a tough player to trade considering his value and remaining contract. He still has two years left on his deal after the season. He has a salary of $37.9 million next season and $40.3 million for the 2024-25 season.
