Over the past three weeks, the biggest saga in the NBA has been between Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat. As we inch closer to the trade deadline, the disconnect between player and organization continues to grow.
Butler has made it clear that he wishes to be traded, at one point saying he'll play anywhere but Miami. As he gets ready to end his team-issued suspension, he had a face-to-face meeting with Heat executive Pat Riley. The two were not able to reconcile, as the All-Star forward still demands a change of scenery.
In the latest reporting on Jimmy Butler, he informed Riley he has no plans on signing a new deal with the Heat. Instead, he'll be using his impending playing option to get himself closer to a trade.
"Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler reiterated to team president Pat Riley in a face-to-face meeting last week that he wants to be traded, league sources told ESPN.

Butler told Riley that he will not sign a new deal in Miami and intends to use his $52 million player option in the offseason for 2025-26 as a trade maneuver, sources said."
Throughout this ordeal, multiple teams have had reported interest in Butler. However, the most consistent franchise to appear in rumors is the Phoenix Suns.
NBA insider provides update on Jimmy Butler trade talks
When the Heat announced that they'd be suspending Jimmy Butler, they also stated that they'd be listening to trade offers for him. Coming up on two weeks from that decision, Shams Charania provided the latest on such talks.
It was reported that the Heat have talked with multiple teams and heard offers for Butler, but things have progressed much farther than that. Despite how bleak the situation looks right now, Pat Riley isn't in a rush to get something done.
"The Heat have engaged with multiple teams on Butler trade scenarios and have received offers but have been hesitant to negotiate further, sources said. Riley has not shown an urgency in these talks, as the trade deadline looms on Feb. 6, sources added."
The Heat find themselves in a tough position with Jimmy Butler trade talks for numerous reasons. For starters, he has the opportunity to become a free agent this summer. Also, Miami likely isn't receiving favorable offers from any interested teams.
With this saga being so public, the Heat have lost their leverage in discussions. Teams around the NBA know Butler wants out, and are looking to capitalize. Because of this, Miami is going to have a tough time getting proper value in a return package.
Seeing that Riley continues to hold his ground in this feud with Butler, there is no telling what might happen between now and the February 6th deadline.
