We're entering the fourth month of NBA action. We've officially reached the midpoint of the regular season, so we have a clearer picture of what may or may not happen in the playoffs.

Some teams keep rising and making strides in their conferences, whereas others, like the Philadelphia 76ers or Golden State Warriors, look like a long shot to make the playoffs.

The trade deadline is officially just two weeks away and plenty of big-name players could be on the move. With that in mind, we'll break down the top 10 teams in the league right now.

NBA Power Rankings after Week 13 of the 2024-25 season

#10, Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are bottom feeders no more. Despite losing Jaden Ivey with a serious injury, J.B. Bickerstaff's Pistons are rolling right now. They've won seven of their last 10 and are now No. 6 in the Eastern Conference.

Just one year after finishing the season with the worst record in the league and breaking a record for the most consecutive losses, the Pistons are now 23-21 and have a positive record both at home and on the road.

#9, Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers are just one spot above the Pistons in the East. They're 24-19 for the season and have gone 8-2 in their last 10 outings, including one win over the top-ranked Cleveland Cavaliers.

Rick Carlisle's team loves to push the tempo, but they've also gotten significantly better on the defensive end of the floor. They're also shooting 49% from the floor, which helps.

#8, Memphis Grizzlies

It's been a tale of two teams with the Memphis Grizzlies this season. They're 17-5 at home but just 12-10 on the road, which is why they haven't been able to keep up with OKC.

Even so, and despite Ja Morant being in and out of the lineup with injuries, Taylor Jenkins' team still has a 29-15 record and is just half a game behind the second-seeded Rockets.

#7, New York Knicks

The New York Knicks started showing signs of exhaustion, but they've still weathered the storm. They're 2.5 games behind the Boston Celtics for the No. 2 seed in the East.

Tom Thibodeau's team has gone just 5-5 in their last 10 games, but it also had to do with Karl-Anthony Towns missing a couple of games with an injury. They're almost an identical 14-8 at home and 15-8 on the road.

#6, Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings are the biggest riser in our power rankings this week. Perhaps all they needed was a change of air, and Doug Christie has taken this team to a whole new level.

The Kings are right back in playoff contention. They've gone 9-1 in their last 10 games, which is the best mark in the entire league during that span. They're three games above .500.

#5, Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics' late-game execution has turned into a major concern. They just blew a seven-point lead down the stretch vs. a severely undermanned Clippers team before barely beating them in overtime.

They're still the defending champions, and they're one of just three teams to have won at least 30 games this season. Even so, they don't look like the team they were last season.

#4, Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets have left their slow start of the season far behind them. Russell Westbrook has emerged as Nikola Jokic's sidekick, and they're finally looking like a contender.

Mike Malone's team is currently fourth in the Western Conference with a 27-16 record, and they've won eight of their last 10 contests. Also, Jokic is averaging 30.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game.

#3, Houston Rockets

Despite still lacking more shooting and losing Jabari Smith Jr. with an injury, the Houston Rockets continue to go strong. Amen Thompson is making the most of the expanded playing time, and he looks like an All-Defensive player.

Ime Udoka's team is leading the league in rebounds per game (48.5), making the most of their athleticism and size. They don't shoot the ball well and need better playmaking, but their defense is just too good.

#2, Cleveland Cavaliers

The red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers lost a game they could've and should've won. Darius Garland, a 90% free-throw shooter, missed two freebies down one point to close out the game.

Other than that, the Cavaliers have been almost perfect. They've gone 7-3 in their last 10 games and continue to have the No. 1 three-point shooting offense in the league (39.4%).

#1, Oklahoma City Thunder

With a huge win over the Cavaliers, the Thunder just reclaimed their top spot as the best team in the Association. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is posting Michael Jordan-like numbers and should be the leading MVP candidate.

The Thunder are leading the league in free-throw percentage (82.8%) and average the fewer turnovers per game at just 11.4. Despite their injuries, they're 36-7 and have gone 8-2 in their last 10.
