Throughout his career, Bam Adebayo has made a name for himself in the NBA with his abilities on the defensive end. That said, fans came after the All-Star center after so not-so-flattering metrics were revealed.

Through his first seven seasons in the NBA, Adebayo has made five All-Defense teams and finished top five in Defensive Player of the Year voting five times. Many have argued he's one of the league's best and most versatile defenders, but recent numbers don't back that up.

An NBA fan on Reddit brought up the stats of how well players at defending at the rim this season. Bam Adebayo has struggled in this regard, with opponents shooting an incredible 70.6% on him. After these metrics were brought to light, fans chimed in with their thoughts on his play.

Despite these numbers regarding Adebayo's rim protection, the Heat are still one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. They have the ninth-best defensive rating in the association at 110.6, slightly ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In the midst of the Jimmy Butler saga, Adebayo has been called on to lead the Heat on both ends of the floor. This season, he's averaging 16.1 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

Bam Adebayo remains confident in the Miami Heat amid Jimmy Butler trade rumors

As the regular season rolls along, Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat find themselves in an unwanted situation. With the ongoing saga involving Jimmy Butler being very public, it creates a cloud of distraction over the team. As one of the longer-tenured players, Adebayo has taken it upon himself to provide some stability.

During an interview with Marc Spears, Adebayo talked about the Heat making sure this season doesn't go off the rails. He feels the team still has enough talent to compete and is finding motivation in the younger players on the roster.

“We can’t let this season go to s— for the young guys. I look at ’em because young guys are trying to get a job," Adebayo said. "Guys are trying to be something in this league and it’s like you can’t let the outside noise distract that. But for me, it’s really getting everybody at the same page and understand that we can still win.”

With a little over three weeks to go until the trade deadline, Bam Adebayo and the Heat still have the weather this storm for some time. That said, the All-Star center seems poised to lead with his words and actions.

As we near the halfway point in the schedule, Miami remains in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Their 20-18 record is good enough for seventh place.
