The New York Knicks have released the NBA referee assignment for their opening night game against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. The Celtics will raise their 18th championship banner following their 2024 Finals five-game series win against the Dallas Mavericks.
Zach Zarba, an NBA referee with almost 20 years of experience, will be in charge of the crew. Zarba has officiated the 2016 NBA All-Star game and 12 NBA Finals games.
Marc Lindsay, who will serve as the referee tonight, will help Zarba. Lindsay is one of the league's most seasoned officials, having served for more than 15 years. After working in the league for a few seasons, Brandon Schwab will officiate the Celtics vs. Knicks game.

Brian Forte will be the official assigned for the Replay Center for the Eastern Conference bout. Forte will also be available for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the LA Lakers game.
James Williams will be the crew chief for the NBA referee assignment for the Wolves vs. Lakers game. JT Orr and Nick Buchert will serve as the umpire and referee, respectively.

Fans were surprised to see the NBA referee assignment shared ahead of time.
"Good. Can’t be having another 3 month stretch of referee targeting," one fan said.
"We holding officials accountable over here. walk with us," another fan said.
"Omg the whistle boutta fly tonight 😭," a fan said.
Other fans were surprised when they found out which NBA official would be the referee for the Celtics vs. Knicks game.
"Zarba on opening night…. Oh Come the f**k on. Yall are really trying to ruin my night," a fan said.
"Damn these refs are atrocious," another fan said.
"Brandon Schwab … looks like he about to be a problem," a fan said.
Over the past few seasons, fans have not been high on numerous referees in the league. This time, with the NBA referee assignment, fans can see which officials make certain calls.
