The New York Knicks have been among the most successful teams post the trade deadline. They've boasted a 9-1 record since then (winning all nine games in a row). The Knicks happened to find a piece that fit perfectly under Tom Thibodeau's system in the form of Josh Hart.

It's safe to say that there's mutual admiration between Hart and the organization right from the coaching staff, the players and the team's fanbase. Hart could become an unrestricted free agent in the upcoming offseason if he opts out of the $13 million deal in the final year of his contract. He would be free to join any team that matches his demands.

However, according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, the Knicks want to re-sign Josh Hart in free agency if he opts out of his deal. Here's what he said:

"Any NBA executive or scout I’ve spoken to says the same thing about the pairing of Thibodeau and Hart on the Knicks, “It’s a perfect fit.” He’s been a Swiss army knife for the Knicks as a versatile role player. Hart has almost a $13 million player option this summer, which he’s expected to decline and become a free agent.

"But fear not Knicks fans, Hart loves the fit in New York, and the Knicks want to re-sign him in free agency… I don’t see him leaving. I see him getting either a three or four-year deal at some point once he becomes eligible."

The New York Knicks parted ways with discarded young player Cam Reddish in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers to acquire swingman Josh Hart. He emerged as the ideal 3-and-D piece New York needed to improve their roster. Hart wasn't the only reason the Knicks put themselves in contention for a homecourt seeding for the second time in three seasons, but he was a catalyst in that process.

Josh Hart's efficiency has been off the charts since his move to the New York Knicks

Josh Hart was a starter in Portland. He slotted into a bench role with the New York Knicks but has had better production and more efficiency. Hart averaged 9.5 points and 8.2 rebounds, shooting 52/36/72 splits across 51 games with the Trail Blazers.

Since his move to the Knicks, Hart has tallied 11.2 points and 5.9 rebounds, shooting 61.5% from the field, including 60.9% from 3-point range, playing around four minutes fewer than he did in Portland.

Josh Hart is also one of Thibodeau's best perimeter defenders. Hart has been assigned the most difficult matchups in big games, in which he has been exceptional in limiting the opposition team's best players.

The New York Knicks missed out on a presence like him, who also has leadership qualities with tremendous upside. Hart is excellent at communicating and rallying his teammates with his competitive spirit. The Knicks have mounted crucial comeback wins since his acquisition, which is a testament to the skill and quality he brings to the table for the team.
