As the Pelicans sit with one of the NBA's worst records, Zion Williamson is someone who has been brought up as a possible trade candidate. With a little less than a month until the deadline, one insider weighed in on the future of the former No. 1 pick.
Injuries have derailed this season for the Pelicans, as they've been without multiple key contributors for the majority of the year. Williamson has missed the most time of any New Orleans player, only appearing in seven games thus far.
While on ESPN's "Get Up" on Wednesday, NBA insider Brian Windhorst was asked about Zion Williamson possibly being traded. He stated that the Pelicans would listen to a good offer, but doesn't see one coming due to his inconsistent availability.
"There's no sense of that," Windhorst said. "I think the Pelicans would listen to a great offer but there's no real reason to make a great offer. The guy can't stay on the court."

This has become the narrative of Williamson's career since being taken first overall in 2019. When on the floor, he is one of the league's top talents. However, he's failed to show that he can stay healthy and be in the lineup on a nightly basis.
Sitting in last place in the Western Conference with a 7-30 record, there is no telling if the Pelicans will consider making such a franchise-altering move.
NBA insider states Golden State Warriors aren't interested in Zion Williamson
When analysts have discussed a potential Zion Williamson trade, the Golden State Warriors are one of the first teams mentioned. They've been in the hunt for a star to pair with Steph Curry and have the personnel who could maximize the All-Star forward. However, it doesn't appear they are interested in bringing in the Pelicans star.
During a recent appearance on sports talk show "Murph & Markus," insider Marc Spears was asked about the Warriors trading for Williamson. He stated that he hadn't heard anything regarding their interest in a move of this magnitude.
"I also did hear that Zion's not on the [Warriors] radar," Spears said. "Which, I know others might feel differently, but probably a good thing. Because with Zion, you just don't know what you're going to get and when he's going to be healthy."
There is no denying that Curry and Zion Williamson would be an exciting duo. However, a trade like this is far too risky for Golden State. Their goal is to maximize the final years of the former MVP playing at a high level. Due to his lengthy injury history, the risk of trading for Williamson doesn't outweigh the reward.
Golden State has the pieces to pull off this hypothetical blockbuster trade, but they are better off going in a different direction.
