Recently waived LA Lakers guard Quincy Olivari has started to gain attention from multiple teams around the NBA. After playing just two games in the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles team let the young guard go. According to an exclusive report by Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, several teams are "mulling over" adding Olivari to their roster.
In the two games he played this season, he recorded three points, one assist and a turnover. Even with those numbers, however, the player signed to Steph Curry's brand has been eyed by a few teams.
“Since being waived by the Lakers, there are some teams mulling over the idea of signing the guard,” columnist Brandon 'B Scoop' Robinson wrote, . “I’m hearing that he has a few workouts planned. While we wait on next steps in his playing career, his journey into the NBA is fascinating.
“Olivari became endearing to the Lakers fan base and the organization rather quickly. Olivari joined the Lakers for the 2024 NBA Summer League and then they signed him on an exhibit-10 contract.”

The point guard was on fire during his four appearances during his preseason games. Olivari recorded 35 points on a highly efficient 12-for-13 shooting. The 6-foot-3 guard also showed how reliable he was from long-range as he shot 8-for-14 during the four-game stretch.
Olivari was undrafted and signed a 10-day contract with the Lakers over the summer. Before the season started, his contract was upgraded to a two-way deal. In December, Under Armour's Curry Brand gave him a multi-year deal.
What's next for the Lakers in the NBA trade deadline?
The Lakers are expected to make moves in the upcoming Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline. After trading away D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets for Dorian Finney-Smith, many believe the team isn't finished making moves.
In his most recent column, the Athletic's Jovan Buha predicted that the Lakers won't make major changes to their roster.
"The sense around the league, when talking to rival scouts and front-office personnel, is that standing pat or making a half-measure trade (likely one or two second-round picks) is more likely than the Lakers going all-in and trading both of their future first-round picks that can be moved," Buha wrote. "That’s dependent, of course, on the available players, asking prices and the team’s performance through the deadline."
However, the Lakers should add another ballhandler in the trade deadline. After moving Russell to the Nets, the team has relied heavily on Austin Reaves to shoulder facilitating responsibilities.
