Jimmy Butler has been the most talked-about player in the NBA over the past week or so. The Miami Heat suspended him for seven games after he publicly admitted that he wanted to be traded, and with him potentially becoming a free agent, both parties could move on from each other.
The Phoenix Suns are reportedly among the most interested suitors in his services.
According to former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins, it has to do with Butler's friendship with Kevin Durant. As such, getting Butler would also guarantee that Durant, who's extension eligible and will earn $51,179,020 for the ongoing season, will stay put.
"It's about relationships, and the relationship is Jimmy Butler and Kevin Durant," Perkins said on 'Road Trippin.' "Now, I've told you this about two weeks ago. Phoenix, the organization does want him, you know why? Kevin Durant wants Jimmy Butler."

"And if they don't get Jimmy Butler, which I believe will, they'll both sign contract extensions; KD is gonna sign as well. Now, what happens with Devin Booker in the near future, I don't know," Perkins added.
Suns need Bradley Beal to get Jimmy Butler
The Suns don't have an easy path to get Butler. Given their salary cap situation, they could part ways with one of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker or Bradley Beal to match his salary.
Beal has a no-trade clause, and contrary to recent reports, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN that there have been no such talks.
"There have been no discussions about trades with the Suns or any other team," Bartelstein said. "Bradley's total focus is on helping the Suns turn things around."
Beal is making north of $51 million this season, and given his history of injuries and his decline in production, it would be hard to think of a team that would willingly take that kind of contract.
The Heat didn't want to trade for him two seasons ago, so it's unlikely they've changed their stance on him now. Even so, they will need to find the best trade deal for Butler; otherwise, he can just walk away for free at the end of the season.
The Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies have also been tangled up in rumors regarding Butler, and it shouldn't be long before we get more updates about his trade situation.
