The Phoenix Suns are reportedly looking to trade Jusuf Nurkic as they aim to strengthen their roster ahead of the Feb. 7 trade deadline. According to NBA insider Evan Sidery, the Suns have already engaged in discussions with the Charlotte Hornets to potentially acquire Nick Richards.
Nurkic, who is signed to a four-year, $70 million contract, has seen his role diminish with the Suns. He was recently removed from the starting lineup and has received two consecutive DNPs (Did Not Play), as coach Mike Budenholzer opted to use Mason Plumlee and Oso Ighodaro instead.
In light of these developments, the Suns’ front office has approached the Hornets with a trade proposal centered around Nurkic, aiming to bring in the Jamaican big man Nick Richards to bolster their frontcourt.

"Source: The Suns and Hornets have held preliminary trade discussions that would send Jusuf Nurkic and second-round picks for Nick Richards," Sidery tweeted on Saturday.
"Phoenix has removed Nurkic from the rotation as they seek a trade. Charlotte would send another player alongside Richards in the deal."
Richards, a 7-foot center, is enjoying a strong season with the Hornets. The former Kentucky standout is averaging 9.2 points per game while shooting an efficient 56.4% from the field. In addition, Richards contributes 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks per game across 20 appearances this season.
Fans react to Jusuf Nurkic trade rumors
Social media was abuzz after Evan Sidery revealed the bombshell update on trade rumors involving Jusuf Nurkic. Fans shared their thoughts on how the Phoenix Suns could benefit if the proposed trade were to materialize.
"Nick Richards on the Suns would be something. He just needs minutes and would get all he could handle there. Shares of the Dallas Mavs move for Gafford and PJ Washington last season. I like it," a fan commented.
"If the Suns could get this done that would make us ALOT Better. We would then need to cut plumlee and add an athletic wing and we're good," commented another fan.
"I hope Charlotte don’t help bail Phoenix out!! Richards would likely be a much better fit for this team," a fan wrote.
Imagine???? Hornets are the most stupid organisation. Imagine!!! Just continue to pile dumpster for Lamelo and Brandon. This is not a serious organisation. So after Nick had cooked their team they now want to exchange with their DNP. @MELOD1P what are you still doing there." a user said.
Meanwhile, the Suns took the court on Saturday, securing a 114-106 victory over the Utah Jazz to improve their season record to 18-19.
