Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns might be heading for a divorce soon if the situation doesn't improve regarding their title aspirations. Durant still has two years and $100.4 million left on his contract. While he is eligible for a two-year $121 million extension in the summer, it seems like the two parties may decide to part ways if the Suns don't elevate anywhere close to a final run.

The new CBA has placed massive limitations on the team's chances of making roster upgrades, which has several glaring issues. One issue is the lack of flexibility, and the other is the lack of assets, which the Suns didn't hesitate to spend on adding Durant and Bradley Beal.

With the Suns 19-19 on the year, likely finishing in the play-in tournament, The Ringer's Michael Pina has predicted a potential trade that would send Durant to the Houston Rockets, where he would team up with $185,000,000 Turkish star Alperen Sengun.

"KD is the rare offensive talent who’d make the Rockets (currently second in the West) a legitimate threat to win it all without mangling the long-term development of anyone else on that roster," Pina wrote.

"Durant still has immense trade value for any team that’s interested in winning, but thanks to the second apron, Phoenix can’t take back more money than it gives out or aggregate multiple contracts, which quashes so much possibility."

The Suns owe the Rockets swap rights this season, the 2027 and 2029 first-round picks. Pina suggested that the Suns should be willing to listen to an offer if there's another unprotected first with the above-mentioned picks, along with the contracts of Fred VanVleet, Jalen Green and Jeff Green for salary matching purposes.

NBA Trade Rumors: Rockets would be great fit for Kevin Durant and vice versa

At 36, Kevin Durant remains an effective scorer in the league, averaging 27.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 51.9/38.9/84.0 splits. As a defender, there is some natural regression, but on this Suns team, Durant has arguably been their best two-way threat. With Durant playing at an extremely high level at this age, the Suns should have been better.

However, not having the ideal supporting cast has hindered his chances at title success. That significantly changes if he moves to the Rockets and they keep a majority of their young core. Kevin Durant provides the team with a major boost offensively.

They don't boast a shot creator that's remotely close to Durant's level, and that has held Houston back on a lot of occasions from tearing through the West. They are still the second seed with a 25-12 record but could be way better, especially in a playoff setting with a scorer like Durant, who would be surrounded by young athletes.
