The OKC Thunder are building a stronger case as the team to beat in the Western Conference, led by MVP Shai-Gilgeous Alexander. As the Thunder look to strengthen their roster, they have reportedly identified Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson as a potential addition to complement their star guard.
According to Marcus Thompson II and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Thunder are in "hot pursuit" of Johnson. However, OKC isn’t the only team interested in his services, as the Sacramento Kings are also reportedly in the mix.
Cameron Johnson, with a $22.5 million salary according to Spotrac, would be a valuable asset to the Thunder. Despite their dominance in the Western Conference, OKC has struggled with 3-point shooting, converting just 34.9% of attempts (20th) while averaging 13.0 made 3-pointers per game (15th).

The forward would be a significant upgrade. He is shooting 43.6% from beyond the arc for the Nets this season and is averaging 19.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
While the Thunder are not urgently in need of reinforcements, acquiring Johnson could address their 3-point shooting woes and improve their chances of making a deeper postseason run.
OKC Thunder positioned to land Cameron Johnson amid Nets' hefty asking price
The OKC Thunder may have one of the strongest rosters in the league, but they are not without weaknesses. With the Brooklyn Nets reportedly open to trading players this season, OKC could benefit from their willingness to negotiate.
However, dealing with the Nets could be challenging. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Nets will seek "multiple first-round picks" in return for the 28-year-old forward.
While this steep asking price may deter other suitors, the Thunder possess one of the league's largest stockpiles of future draft picks. This advantage makes them one of the few teams capable of meeting the Nets' demands.
The Thunder hold a staggering 32 draft picks over the next seven years. The most probable trade package would include Isaiah Joe or Aaron Wiggins, Ousmane Dieng and Kenrich Williams, along with however many picks the Nets demand for Johnson
The OKC Thunder are not desperate for the move and will need to carefully weigh their options. One thing is certain: They remain strong contenders for a deep playoff run, with or without Johnson.
