The latest NBA trade rumors around the Phoenix Suns suggest they are targeting one of the centers on the LA Lakers' wishlist. Jusuf Nurkic hasn't lived up to expectations this season, prompting the Suns to seek frontcourt help. They are also looking to offload the remaining of Nurkic's $37.2 million contract with two years left.
The Suns are reportedly engaged on Nick Richards, who signed a three-year $15 million contract with the Hornets last year and is earning $5 million this season. According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, Phoenix is looking to dangle Nurkic in a potential trade.
However, the latest reports from Suns insider John Gambadoro suggest the Hornets might not accept Jusuf Nurkic in return, but the two teams are indeed working on a deal.
"Suns like Richards he's athletic with a good contract. Not sure Charlotte would take back Nurkic, but I do believe the two sides are working on this - There is a way to make it happen but it's not a sure thing."

The Suns can't take back more salary, as they are a second apron team. However, it would be possible for them to trade a contract that matches or exceeds Richards' salary. According to Evan Sidery, the Suns may include Josh Okogie's expiring $8.2 million contract instead.
Suns most aggressive for Nick Richards in budding market ft. Lakers and Bucks
Nick Richards' stock continues to see a spike during this trade cycle. With the Feb. 6 trade deadline approaching, several contenders are eyeing him as a potential acquisition. Per Evan Sidery, the Suns, Lakers, Knicks, and Kings. Bucks and the Nuggets are among the teams in his pursuit.
The Suns, who are 18-19 on the season and struggling to improve the roster, seem desperate for this move, especially with Jusuf Nurkic and Mason Plumlee not providing the production at the five. Richards is a more athletic and defensively versatile player than them, who is averaging 9.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks, shooting 56.4%.
He will provide stability to Phoenix's inconsistency on the defensive end and financial flexibility over the players they have on the team.
