Warriors- Jimmy Butler trade talks stalls

The Golden State Warriors are 22-22 for the season and in the No. 11 spot in the Western Conference.

Flirting with .500 basketball and the Play-In Tournament isn't where this team expected to be this season, much less after such an impressive start to the campaign.

Injuries, inconsistency, bad luck, and poor play have plagued Steve Kerr's team this season.

And though the trade deadline is still ahead, the Warriors must find reinforcements from within.

On Friday, Clutchpoints' Brett Siegel reported on X that the Warriors will no longer pursue Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, as they don't want to trade Andrew Wiggins or Jonathan Kuminga.

The Warriors were one of the teams leading the race for Butler weeks ago, but it now seems like it could be just a matter of time before he finds his way to the Phoenix Suns.

Stephen Curry doesn't want the Warriors to mortgage their future

Stephen Curry has been oddly vocal this season. He hasn't shied away from controversy, and he's urged his team to step up during these pressing times.

Nonetheless, as much as he knows he needs more help, he's also aware of his basketball mortality.

As such, he also knows that the franchise cannot jeopardize their entire future for a playoff push.

"Desperate trades or desperate moves that deplete the future, there is a responsibility on allowing or keeping the franchise in a good space and good spot when it comes to where we leave this thing when we're done," Curry said on Jan. 14.

Curry still believes his team could make a couple of moves, so long as they come from a place of fit and need and not out of desperation.

"Doesn't mean that you're not trying to get better. It doesn't mean that you're not active," Curry said. "Nobody wants to be stale or be in a situation where you're passing up opportunities. But it doesn't mean that you're desperate just flinging assets all around the place just because you want to do something."

The Warriors have some interesting young players, as neither Curry nor Draymond Green is getting any younger. While they have shown no signs or desire to be ready to walk away from the game, their best years might be in the rearview mirror.

Coach Kerr will have to play with the hand he's dealt given this season, and the Warriors might have to wait until the offseason to land a big-name player.
