The New York Knicks got four-time NBA All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns in a blockbuster deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday in their continued bid to become a steady force in the NBA.
"KAT" was acquired from the Timberwolves in exchange for fellow All-Star Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round pick. The Knicks are hoping that with Towns in tow, he could fortify coach Tom Thibodeau's frontcourt and complement the team's already solid guard play, which features Jalen Brunson and new acquisition Mikal Bridges.
Here is how the team's probable starting lineup and depth chart could look like following the arrival of Karl-Anthony Towns.

Predicting Tom Thibodeau's rotation plans for New York Knicks
Towns' arrival will fill much-needed support at center following the departure of Isaiah Hartenstein in the offseason and the injury to Mitchell Robinson. Towns brings with him a solid skill set, including rebounding (10.8 boards in his career), apart from scoring (22.9 ppg) on 52% shooting and 39.8% from deep.
With him around, much load will be taken off All-Star guard Brunson (28.7 ppg) who did a lot of heavy lifting last season. The two of them together will provide a potent scoring duo that the rest of the league should take note of.
Towns will also allow the Knicks to continue to have a fast-paced offense with his ability to run the break. He and fellow Knicks newbie Bridges should shore the team's thrust on that front.
Speaking of Bridges, DiVincenzo is a big shoe to fill with his ability to play both ends, but the former Brooklyn Net has it him to get the job done that his former collegiate teammate played effectively.
Josh Hart and OG Anunoby will also flourish in the starting forward spots for the Knicks as they have proven time and again that they can hold their own even against taller opponents for their all-hustle, all-heart style of play.
Brunson will continue to run the show in New York and should improve on his 6.7 assist output from last year with new targets Towns and Bridges around.
The bench also improved, with Cameron Payne and Landry Shamet providing veteran experience in the backcourt along with the explosive Miles McBride.
Robinson will be out for a while but the Knicks have ample bodies to help Towns at center in Precious Achiuwa, Jericho Sims and Marcus Morris Sr.
The return of Morris should be a boon to New York's rotation as like Towns, he too, is steadily increasing his shots both inside and out, apart from providing physical play for Thibodeau. It bears noting that when he played 43 games for the New York Knicks in the 2019-20 season, he posted a career-high 19.6 points.
