New York Knicks vs Dallas Mavericks Game Summary
The New York Knicks continued a five-game road trip with a matchup against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. Following wins against the Phoenix Suns 138-122 and the Denver Nuggets 145-118), the streaking Knicks looked to add the Mavericks to their victims.
Without Luka Doncic, the hosts put on a defensive clinic to lead 28-15 after one quarter. P.J. Washington, Naji Marshall and Quentin Grimes carried the offense early as the Knicks focused their attention defensively on Kyrie Irving.
Dallas’ offense continued to hum in the first half. Irving, Marshall and Washington combined for 38 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Spencer Dinwiddie came off the bench to add nine points and six assists. The Mavericks’ impressive two-way display pushed them to a 60-38 lead at halftime.
Mikal Bridges, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson put up 28 points combined but got little help from across the roster. New York’s highly-touted defense had trouble slowing down their opponents who didn’t have their best player.
The New York Knicks played much better in the second half, but the Dallas Mavericks kept up. After scoring 38 points in the first half, the Knicks dropped 67 in the next two quarters to cut the Mavericks' lead. The damage has been done, though, as the visitors couldn’t rally for a win.
After scoring a career-high 40 points against the Denver Nuggets on Monday, OG Anunoby labored for eight points in Dallas. Josh Hart had a quiet performance, while the Knicks bench combined for 12 points. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges carried the offense that proved insufficient.
The Mavericks, minus Luka Doncic, coasted to a 129-114 victory.
