Dennis Schroder didn't see himself spending Christmas Day away from his family at the start of the season as his former team, the Brooklyn Nets, weren't scheduled to participate in the NBA's Christmas Day games.

However, his trade on Dec. 15 to the Golden State Warriors changed all that. Missing his family, he shared a snap on his Instagram story on Thursday where he joined the family picture via FaceTime and wrote an emotional message.

"Need the family with me," Schroder captioned.

The Warriors acquired Dennis Schroder in exchange for De'Anthony Melton and Reece Beekham. They also sent three second round picks and received a second round pick in return.

The move for Schroder was needed by the Dubs to take some pressure off Steph Curry as well as to provide more experience to their young roster. Warriors General Manager Michael Dunleavy Jr. has expressed his desire to keep the FIBA World Cup winner beyond this season as he is seen as a key piece in making the franchise competitive in the West.

Before joining the Warriors, Schroder averaged 18.4 points, on 45.2% shooting, including 38.7% from the 3-point line, along with 6.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds for the Nets.

Dennis Schroder shares his son's reaction to his trade to the Warriors

Dennis Schroder has been on the move three times in four years. Moves like this affect his family and he shared the reaction of his six-year-old son following his trade to the Warriors, which he surprisingly took well.

He said during his introductory press conference that his son Dennis Jr. was excited after he found out about it through his wife.

"My wife told him that we got traded, and he asked, 'Where we going?' And we said Golden State, and he was like, 'Oh, we're lucky now, at least it's a good team,'" Schroder said on Dec. 17. "That was the first thing, and I had to laugh and I was in a bad mood."

Schroder added that his son is a Steph Curry fan and was looking forward to meeting him.

"He's a Steph Curry fan, we battled in London as well for the national team for the NBA showcase," Schroder said. "We got to see him there and then of course in Paris, he's a big fan. He watches every game, all he does is basketball, and he's gonna be thrilled to see him. Even when yesterday I came, he asked me if Steph Curry was there. I was like, 'You're not even going to ask how I'm doing?'"

Schroder's NBA journey started with the Atlanta Hawks after being selected 17th overall in the 2013 NBA draft. He has since played for the OKC Thunder, LA Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Nets and now with the Warriors.
