For the second time in his career, D'Angelo Russell has been traded away by the Los Angeles Lakers. Although Russell has grown both professionally and personally since his first stint with the team, one former teammate hasn't let him forget an incident that happened nearly a decade ago.

Shortly after news broke of Russell's trade to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, ex-Laker Nick Young bid him farewell in a less-than-flattering manner:

"AND STAY OUT... Dnt bring yo a*s back to LA," said Young on X.

Young's vitriol dates back to 2016, when he and DLo shared the Lakers locker room but ended up at odds with each other.

At that time, Russell allegedly recorded Young admitting to relations with other women despite being engaged to rapper Iggy Azalea. This incident reportedly caused a rift in the locker room, with Russell's teammates losing trust in him. A little over a year later, Russell was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

Though there were reports of Young forgiving Russell, Swaggy P said in a 2022 interview with Chris Mannix that he'd be interested in boxing DLo:

"Of course D-Lo, D'Angelo," Young told Mannix without hesitation.

Now that Russell is once again on his way out of Tinseltown, Young seems unable to resist rubbing this exit in his former teammate's face.

Analyst: D'Angelo Russell might not even suit up for a second stint with the Nets

While D'Angelo Russell's departure from the Lakers is set, the next NBA game he plays might not be for the Brooklyn Nets after all.

Chris Mannix, the same reporter who got Nick Young to admit his aspirations of boxing Russell, speculated that the Brooklyn front office might have different plans for the one-time All-Star:

"Will D'Angelo Russell play for Brooklyn? Russell is on an expiring contract that will pay him $18.7 million this season," Mannix pointed out on X. "Nets are full speed on the race to the bottom. A buyout wouldn't be surprising."

The Nets, of course, have an "incentive" to reach the bottom of the standings: the chance to draft Cooper Flagg, the multitalented forward who is virtually guaranteed to be the number one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

There's credence to what Mannix is saying, and it would not be a massive shock to see Russell return to NBA action in a jersey without the word "Brooklyn" on it.
