Carlos Boozer gave Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison credit for the team that's been put together following the Luka Doncic trade. The former two-time NBA All-Star praised the current roster's construction as a group that, if healthy, could compete for a championship.
Boozer appeared on ESPN's "Get Up" on Tuesday and was asked what the Mavericks's potential is going into next season. The 13-year NBA veteran commended Harrison for all the pieces that Dallas has and lauded the team as a contender in the immediate future.

"I actually like this team when they're completely healthy," Boozer said.

Boozer explained why he believes this roster could compete for a championship if healthy. He spoke about Kyrie Irving's season, averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists before tearing his left ACL. Boozer also noted the growth of Dallas' centers, Daniel Gafford and Derrick Lively, who he thinks have developed their games even more.
When the Mavericks traded Doncic for Anthony Davis in early February, they ensured they'd be able to compete immediately. The team also has several capable wings like P.J. Washington, Naji Marshall and Max Christie. With the elite shooting that Klay Thompson provides, Boozer thinks this team is ready to contend.
“They have great pieces on that team," Boozer added. "Nico did a good job of putting a really good team together for now. So, for next year, they are going to be a contender if they’re healthy.”
Boozer didn't hesitate to put an asterisk on his praise, however. Health is of utmost importance, considering how the Mavs have been ravaged by injuries since the blockbuster trade.
Anthony Davis makes NBA history in Mavericks return
Anthony Davis has been sidelined since early February with an adductor strain that he suffered in his debut for the Dallas Mavericks. The 10-time NBA All-Star was traded for Luka Doncic on Feb. 2 in a blockbuster trade that no one in the sports world saw coming.
Despite the shock, Davis debuted for Dallas on Feb. 8. Davis had 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks before exiting the game in the third quarter.
After over six weeks away from the court, Davis returned on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets. He played just 27 minutes as he's on a minute restriction, scoring 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Despite the limited playing time, it was still enough for Davis to make NBA history. His 12 points moved him to 68th on the all-time scoring list, surpassing Hall of Famer Chet Walker. Davis isn't expected to play against the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
