While Bronny James has been one of the most widely discussed prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft, controversial US activist Dr. Umar will only watch under one condition. In a video for social media, Dr. Umar revealed that until Bronny James stops appearing publicly alongside white women, he won't be watching him play. The stunning revelation was made on Friday, sparking criticism around the NBA.

As fans may remember, back when Bronny James was playing for Sierra Canyon, some social media users decided to take aim at the young prospect for his prom date. The only criticism people had? Bronny James was taking a girl to prom who was white.

The moment saw Bronny receive widespread support from the NBA community as people defended him for taking whoever he wanted to prom. At the time, the comments and criticism coming from the loud minority were seen as revolting.

The fact that Bronny had faced criticism for the race of his prom date was not only seen as repulsive, but also stunning. Now, Dr. Umar has echoed many of the same tropes in his latest video, telling Bronny that despite being happy for him and his father, he won't be watching unless Bronny dates within his race.

"I will watch Bronny James play when he drops the snow bunny. I don't support black men who date out their race. So until Bronny James stops bunny hopping, I can't do it. I'm happy for him and his father, though.
"If Bronny James stops bunny hopping, if he doesn't stop bunny hopping, I can't support that. No snow bunnies, no sand bunnies, no salsa bunnies, no salsa, no sand, no snow, no rice. I said no salsa, no sand, no snow, no rice."

Who is Dr. Umar? Looking further at the controversial US activist amid his comments about Bronny James

The response to Dr. Umar's latest video has sparked significant backlash for the controversial US activist. Some fans went so far as to call him racist for the terms he used to describe women of other nationalities.

But who is Dr. Umar? According to his website, Dr. Umar is a doctor of psychology and a certified school psychologist. His site also alleges that he is a quote-unquote expert on the education and mental health of African and African-American children.

In addition to being a social media personality, Dr. Umar also claims to be a descendant of Frederick Douglass, one of the most famous figures in American civil rights history. Despite his claim, however, in 2017, Douglass' family made it clear that Dr. Umar has no connection to the great abolitionist.

In addition to his social media content, Dr. Umar also hosts online content in the form of lectures and seminars, as well as a tour of Africa that takes place twice each summer.

In the past, Dr. Umar has taken aim at the NBA, specifically taking aim at LeBron James earlier this summer for his podcast with JJ Redick. In the past, he has also found himself on the receiving end of criticism from the NBA community for taking aim at Vanessa Bryant, alleging she doesn't do enough for the black community.

At the time, his comments earned him widespread backlash as the NBA community stood up for Vanessa Bryant, with NBA vet Jamal Crawford and others taking aim at Dr. Umar.
