Chet Holmgren hitting the road with the OKC Thunder comes as good news for the OKC Thunder who has been one of the teams in tremendous form. Their 15-game win streak was snapped by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but they have bounced back to winning ways with a win over the New York Knicks. Up next, they take on the struggling Washington Wizards at the Capital One Arena on Sunday.
The Thunder will miss the services of key names in Holmgren and Alex Caruso. The center has been recovering from a Right Iliac wing fracture, while Caruso, their best point-of-attack defender has been sidelined with a left hip strain. Despite their absence, OKC has managed to stay on top with a scintillating record.
Chet Holmgren had a brilliant start before going down to injury
Chet Holmgren picked up from where he left off from the last season averaging 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. However, his harrowing injury saw OKC struggle with the absence of his two-way impact. Holmgren was selected No. 2 overall in the 2022 NBA draft out of Gonzaga What has helped the Thunder is the depth they have in their ranks that makes up for Holmgren's time off the hardwood and was looked at missing 8-10 weeks of gametime.
With Alex Caruso, the Thunder inked a deal with one of the best defensive guards in the modern-day NBA. However, injuries have limited his time on the floor with just 5.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in 20 games. Caruso has missed nine consecutive games for the Thunder and as they head to the half of the season, the Thunder will hope that their health improves as they can better their chances and solidify their place on top of the table.
At the time of writing, the OKC Thunder are 31-6 and that they are in that position without cornerstone Chet Holmgren comes as good news. Much now depends on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander if OKC intends to rack up wins.
