Social media was buzzing after a Lakers fan revealed that star guard D'Angelo Russell had blocked him on X (formerly Twitter). The fan, known as @LakeShowYo on the platform, shared a screenshot showing Russell’s block following the Lakers' 131-114 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Russell’s block came after he faced widespread criticism for his performance against the Grizzlies. The Lakers point guard managed just 12 points on 4 of 12 shooting, including 2 of 9 from 3-point range. As Russell struggled, coach JJ Redick opted to bench him for the game’s final 17 minutes.

Fans reacted candidly to the news of Russell blocking the fan, with several Lakers followers taking to X to troll the guard.

"Only defense he’s ever played in his life," a fan wrote while taking a shot at Russell's defensive skills on the court.
"Looks to be back to his social media antics all that talk preseason like he was gonna change man still can’t take criticism when playing like straight ass," said another fan.
"Did more blocks on twitter than on the court," commented another fan.
"Why we dont pull the trigger on Buddy Hield and Turner for this roster!!!!!!! Bad decision And now our PG dont stand for critics," wrote another.
"Thats his problem, worrying about what fans think instead of doing his job," another fan commented.
"You simply reported what the coach said, and he blocked you LMAOOOOO trade his ass," wrote another.

Challenging start to the season for D'Angelo Russell

D'Angelo Russell’s start to the 2024-25 season has been challenging, drawing heavy criticism, particularly during the Lakers' recent five-game road trip that wrapped up on Wednesday. Following Russell’s underwhelming performance, even coach Redick appeared to lose patience, choosing to bench his starting point guard for the final 17 minutes of the game.

"Level of compete… attention to detail," Redick said after the game when asked about Russell playing only 22 minutes against the Grizzlies. "Some of the things we've talked with him about a couple of weeks. At times he's been really good… other times it's just reverting to certain habits."

Russell is currently averaging 12 points per game on 37.5% shooting from the field, including 29.2% from beyond the arc. He has also contributed 2.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game through his first eight appearances of the season.
