Pascal Siakam contract: How much will Indiana Pacers star reportedly make on his new deal?

In the middle of the 2023-2024 season, the Indiana Pacers traded for Pascal Siakam, who had an expiring contract, in exchange for three first-round picks. It was perceived as a gamble on the Pacers' part, but now, the Indiana front office has secured the services of the former two-time All-Star for the long run.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Siakam reportedly intends to sign a four-year, $189.5 million max contract with the Pacers. He will have to wait until July 6 to officially sign the contract,

The deal indicated the Pacers’ win-now mentality, strapping the former NBA champion to a maximum deal in the hopes of consistently competing against Eastern Conference’s top teams, including reigning NBA champions the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, and the Miami Heat.

Siakam averaged 21.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game in 31.8 minutes with the Pacers. He has been playing as a secondary star to Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, reaching the Eastern Conference finals last season before being swept by the eventual NBA champion Celtics.

The contract will run until the 2027-2028 season, when Siakam turns 34. With the deal, the Pacers assured themselves of Haliburton, who turned 24 years old this year, and Siakam until 2028 and 2029.

Immediately, Siakam will eat up 30% of the Pacers’ cap space. While no figure has been announced, the team's cap is projected to hit $141 million.

Once signed, the deal is the second richest contract in the franchise behind Haliburton’s five-year, $245 million extension he signed last season.

Siakam will get to skip free agency since teams can negotiate deals with their players as soon as the season wraps up. Siakam and the Pacers become the first ones to use this new rule, allowing the Indiana star to enjoy the offseason without the stress of free agency.

Pascal Siakam lifted the Pacers’ playoff ceiling last season

In the Pacers’ surprisingly deep playoff run, Pascal Siakam averaged 21.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists on an excellent 54.1% shooting from the field. He scored 367 points in this year’s playoffs, the most points for the Pacers in the postseason since Paul George in 2014.

Indiana defeated the shorthanded Milwaukee Bucks in six games in the first round before surviving the New York Knicks in Game 7, capping off a gutsy second-round matchup.

With Haliburton sustaining a hamstring injury in Game 2, the Pacers bowed out in the conference finals to the Celtics via sweep.

Siakam played seven and a half seasons for the Toronto Raptors, winning a title in 2019 as arguably the second-best player behind Kawhi Leonard in their championship run.

In the same year, he won the Most Improved Player award before getting shipped in the middle of last season, pairing him with the youthful Pacers led by budding superstar Haliburton.
