The JJ Redick era with the LA Lakers began on Tuesday with a 110-103 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. LA’s victory was its first on opening night since the start of the 2016-17 season when they beat the Houston Rockets 120-114.
In his first year coaching the NBA, the former analyst helped break the Lakers’ opening-night losing streak.
Basketball fans reacted to the Redick’s first career win as a coach in the NBA:

“JJ Reddick was born to be a coach.”
As he promised in his introductory press conference, Redick demanded his team to run set plays instead of attacking Minnesota’s defense randomly. The LA Lakers played with discipline on offense and executed what their coach wanted. They shot 5-for-30 from deep but made 44.2% of their shots overall.
LeBron James and Co. had more assists 22-17 and committed fewer turnovers 16-7 against the Timberwolves. The Lakers are off to an impressive start in the Redick era.
JJ Redick’s defensive strategy worked well
Most basketball fans were interested to see how JJ Redick’s offense would play out in the regular season. As advertised, there was a steady stream of screens and movements. The Lakers’ offense was crisp, one that troubled the Timberwolves.
Redick’s defense, though, might have been overlooked. He has made the Lakers more physical and energetic. LA’s defensive rotation, particularly when double-teaming Anthony Edwards, was spot on. “Ant-Man” finished with 27 points but hit 10-for-25 shots, including 5-for-13 from deep. None of Edwards’ teammates hit more than 17 points.
JJ Redick’s play calling on offense has lived up to the hype but his defense could soon gain recognition.
