Reed Sheppard had a quiet night as the Houston Rockets went down 99-93 to the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center on Thursday (Dec. 5). The rookie got off to a good start with seven points in the first half behind Amen Thompson's 11-point outburst from the bench, but fizzled out as the hosts took control in the third quarter.

Sheppard finished with seven points on 2-6 shooting from the field and 1-5 from beyond the arc in 12:38 minutes.

Alperen Sengun's 16 points and eight rebounds led the Rockets' charge, but it wasn't enough as Jonathan Kuminga's 33-point explosion had Houston's defense collapsing. As for Sheppard, the rookie continues to have a mixed run in his maiden NBA season.

Reed Sheppard showcased his offensive prowess during Kings' skirmish

Reed Sheppard's potential to get hot in the early minutes of the game has been a talking point when talking about the Rockets. In the previous game against the Sacramento Kings, Sheppard connected three of his five shots for six points to end his evening with a +10 plus-minus. He added an assist to the tally as well in the loss.

While the stats do not pop up as stellar, his playmaking and facilitating have been promising. Sheppard's numbers from the three are yet to see a bump as he is shooting 33.3% from beyond the arc. Earlier, ESPN's Tim MacMahon appeared on the "Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective" podcast and believed that the rookie would play solid minutes off the bench, but would need to earn them.

“He’ll be on the floor. I think he’ll play a significant role as a playmaker off the bench.”

Looked as the future point guard for the Rockets behind Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard's primary focus in his first year in the league is to understand his role in the team's setup and also upping his scoring game. Only time will tell if his performance sees a rise in the games to come.
