Reed Sheppard and the Houston Rockets capped off a three-game road swing with a matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday. Sheppard looked to help his team keep its dominance over the Pelicans, who they beat 133-113 on Dec. 19.
The rookie sat out the entire first quarter but started in the second. He opened the period instead of Fred VanVleet. The Rockets immediately ran a play for Sheppard, but the former Kentucky star missed a 25-footer. Sheppard could not convert on two more shots before the first half ended.
Despite Sheppard having a rough-shooting night, the Houston Rockets led 61-43 at halftime.

Reed Sheppard didn't see action in the third quarter, but started in the final period. The rookie failed to convert any of his five attempts. He also went 1-for-2 from the free throw line for his only point in the game. Sheppard contributed four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
The poor performance from Sheppard did not stop the Houston Rockets from a comfortable 128-111 win. Houston walked away from New Orleans with the victory behind Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun. Greed had 30 points, while Sengun contributed 10 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.
Reed Sheppard suffers another rough-shooting night
Reed Sheppard's rookie season has not gone well. The No. 3 pick of the 2024 NBA draft suffered another rough-shooting night on Thursday. He finished the game against the New Orleans Pelicans 0-of-8, including 0-of-4 from deep. Considered a sharpshooter, he also converted 1-of-2 free throws.
The performance against the Pelicans was roughly the same display Sheppard showed on Monday versus Charlotte. He finished that game with three points on 1-of-7 shooting with a 1-of-6 clip from behind the arc.
Over his last two games, Sheppard is 1-of-15 and 0-of-10 in 3-pointers. This month, Sheppard is averaging 3.7 points per game behind an atrocious 29.0% shooting efficiency. The rookie is making 18.2% of his attempts from rainbow distance.
