Sterling Brown: Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns, Game 5

Sterling Brown could be back in the NBA. On the heels of reports surfacing that the LA Lakers are planning to work out DeMarcus Cousins, news has now surfaced that the team is reportedly signing Sterling Brown to a 10-day contract. The news comes just one day after the Lakers became eligible to sign players to 10-day contracts.

Sterling Brown hasn't appeared in an NBA game since the Dallas Mavericks' May 26 loss to the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs. During the offseason, he was traded to the Houston Rockets for Christian Wood along with Boban Marjanovic, Trey Burke and Marquese Chriss.

After the season tipped off in September, Brown was traded as part of a package deal to the OKC Thunder. Just three days later, he was waived by the team. It took just over two months for Brown to find another opportunity before landing on the Raptors 905 NBA G League team.

In just two games played for Raptors 905, Brown averaged 32.5 minutes per game, with 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Although he has continued to struggle from beyond the arc, his field goal percentage is an impressive 40%.

Enter the LA Lakers, who are looking to fill several bench roles in the absence of Anthony Davis and Lonnie Walker IV. With MRIs revealing both are progressing towards a return, the franchise is trying to bide its time and stay afloat.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, that's where Sterling Brown comes in. By signing the veteran to a 10-day contract, they'll be able to provide the team with some wing depth as Davis inches towards an eventual return.
