The Boston Celtics reportedly signed free agent shooting guard Lonnie Walker IV on Wednesday, adding to their championship roster. The move elicited disbelief from NBA fans, who lamented the rich seemingly getting richer.
After winning its historic 18th NBA title, Boston retained virtually its entire roster, with its lone offseason departure being reserve shooting guard Svi Mykhailiuk. The franchise also extended superstar forward Jayson Tatum and starting shooting guard Derrick White on long-term deals.
On Wednesday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Celtics signed Walker to a one-year contract, replacing Mykhailiuk with a more proven player.

Over 58 games with the Brooklyn Nets this past season, Walker averaged 9.7 points per game, shooting 42.3% and 38.4% from 3. He did so in only 17.4 minutes per game, showcasing his microwave-scoring ability.
Following Wednesday's news, many fans on X/Twitter questioned how Boston added a player of Walker's caliber.
"How did we let them pick him up?" @Three_Cone said.
"Celtics superteam again, SMH," @30problemz wrote.
Meanwhile, others praised Celtics president and general manager Brad Stevens for pulling off the signing.
"The Celtics really kept (basically) their entire roster, extended star players AND added Lonnie Walker IV. Brad Stevens [is] gonna go down as the best ever," @iJordanMoore said.
"BRAD STEVENS, YOU GENIUS," @HoodiJustice wrote.
A few LA Lakers fans also called out their team's GM, Rob Pelinka, for not signing the ex-Laker. Despite coming off a first-round playoff exit, LA is one of two squads that haven't added a player via trade or free agency this offseason.
"Rob Pelinka should just resign," @ypclucro said.
"We should have brought Lonnie back over Cam Reddish. Rob screwed up on those player options," @MadMaxBalla said.
Lonnie Walker IV's deal with Boston is non-guaranteed
Despite the fan commotion surrounding Lonnie Walker IV heading to Boston, his deal is reportedly non-guaranteed.
Per The Athletic's Shams Charania, Walker signed an Exhibit 10 contract, allowing the Celtics to give him a bonus "if he is waived after training camp." Thus, it appears Walker still needs to earn his spot on the defending champions' roster.
Exhibit 10 deals are typically uncommon for proven veteran players like Walker. So, some, including Spotrac's Keith Smith, seemingly took exception to the contract's terms.
"If players who can actually play, like Lonnie Walker, are having to take camp deals, we've either gone too far with things CBA-wise or teams are being FAR too cautious. He should have a guaranteed minimum deal, at the very least," Smith tweeted Wednesday.
However, if Walker can provide Boston with a noticeable scoring boost during training camp, he should be able to secure one of the Celtics' final roster spots.
