For years, Ron Harper was one of the most respected role players in the NBA. His defensive prowess and timely shot-making made him lay the blueprint for what championship-caliber teams should pursue when rounding up their rosters.
This helped him earn north of $34 million during his playing days. However, when presented with the hypothetical situation on X, choosing between a date with journalist Taylor Rooks or $500,000, the former NBA champion had a simple and honest response on Monday:
"Take the money always!"

Ron Harper responds to a fan inquiring about his son
This isn't the first time that Ron Harper has made the rounds online. Last week, he went viral after responding to a Utah Jazz fan who claimed that his son, Rutgers star Dylan Harper, would never play for Utah.
"As a Jazz fan, after last night, I'm embarrassed," a fan tweeted. "We are tanking for Cooper Flagg, who shoots 29% from three. Who I believe is AK 2.0. Dylan Harper, who will not come to Utah. His Dad refused to come to Utah many years ago. Tanking doesn't guarantee anything."
Ron Harper responded shortly after, tweeting:
“Correct a trade would happen!!!!”
Harper later said that it was all in good spirits and he was just joking, vowing not to interfere with his son's career:
“Stop believe (sic) what I said about my son playing in [Utah], if me and a friend have a tweet about what team want him it’s all about fun…. I don’t control my son or a NBA team draft board… lol I see pictures of a few teams that I wouldn’t want him on but it’s not my career..."
Meanwhile, the younger Harper is making strides at Rutgers, with Jonathan Givony of ESPN arguing that he could even challenge Flagg for the top spot in the NBA draft:
“Dylan Harper has been the best freshman in college basketball one month into the season. Making a strong case to challenge Cooper Flagg as a No. 1 pick candidate.”
Should that become the case, the Jazz would face some tough competition to get him, as the Washington Wizards are also in a firm to run away with the first-overall selection.
