The Sacramento Kings acquired DeMar DeRozan via sign-and-trade with the Chicago Bulls in a deal that also involved the San Antonio Spurs. DeRozan will bring an additional scoring option for a Kings team that missed the playoffs last season.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim Bontemps of ESPN, DeRozan signed a three-year, $74 million contract to join the Kings. It was a three-team deal with the Spurs and Bulls, who both got players from Sacramento.

Here's the full trade:

  • Sacramento Kings receive DeMar DeRozan.
  • San Antonio Spurs receive Harrison Barnes and unprotected 2031 pick swap.
  • Chicago Bulls receive Chris Duarte, two future second-round picks and cash.

DeMar DeRozan is coming off a season wherein he averaged 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game with the Chicago Bulls. DeRozan remained a top-scoring option in his 15th year in the league.

Sacramento Kings current depth chart

DeMar DeRozan will be joining a stacked Sacramento Kings team filled with two star players in De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. The Kings also boast a young forward in Keegan Murray, as well as one of the best sixth men in the league in Malik Monk.

But how does the Sacramento Kings' depth chart currently look following Deebo's acquisition?

PG: De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk and Devin Carter

SG: Kevin Huerter, Keon Ellis and Colby Jones

SF: DeMar DeRozan and Jalen McDaniels

PF: Keegan Murray and Trey Lyles

C: Domantas Sabonis and Alex Len

The Kings have three open roster spots heading into the second week of free agency. They still need two forwards and one more center to complete their squad ahead of training camp. They also have three players signed to two-way contracts – Mason Jones, Isaac Jones and Isaiah Crawford.

What will DeMar DeRozan bring to the Sacramento Kings?

The Sacramento Kings finished the 2022-23 NBA season as the No. 3 seed in a loaded Western Conference. They snapped their playoff drought and faced the Golden State Warriors in the first round, losing a hard-fought seven-game series.

Some thought they would build from their success that season, but they failed to make the playoffs in back-to-back years. They made the NBA Play-In Tournament but lost to the New Orleans Pelicans in the battle for the No. 8 seed.

After a disappointing campaign, the Kings slightly overhauled their roster by acquiring DeMar DeRozan. But what will DeRozan bring to the Kings next season?

DeRozan brings experience and scoring to the mix alongside De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. He still excels as a mid-range scorer and an improved playmaker. He won't be the first scoring option in Sacramento, but that might be a good thing.

The 34-year-old would also make Keegan Murray a stretch four and a much better option there than Harrison Barnes, who was inconsistent last season. He will replace Barnes in the starting lineup, which improves the team due to his scoring and playmaking.
