San Antonio Spurs vs LA Lakers Recap
The Lakers started on a 7-0 run and closed out the half 62-53. But that was as far as their offense and defense looked good enough to signal an LA win. The Purple and Gold squandered the good start as their lack of efforts on both ends of the floor in the second half allowed the Spurs to storm their way back into the game.
Stephon Castle (23 points) and Devin Vassell (23 points) took charge in the non-Wemby minutes to put the screws on the Lakers while Harrison Barnes (17 points) found the basket a few times to chip in. LA was led by another dominant double-double by Anthony Davis (30 points and 13 rebounds), while LeBron James had a quiet evening out with 18 points and eight assists. Austin Reaves started strong for 12 points but was nowhere to be found in the second half as did Rui Hachimura and Max Christie.
Turnovers were another turning point as the Lakers turned the ball over often leading to 19 second-chance points for the Spurs compared to LA's 14. They also trounced LA 66-40 in the paint in Davis' absence highlighting LA's desperate need for a defensive stopper. The Lakers are now 20-17 after the loss and slipped to seventh in the West while the Spurs are 11th with 19-19 after the win.
