The Minnesota Timberwolves held off the gritty San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, securing their third consecutive win with a 112-110 victory at Target Center in Minneapolis.
Despite a sluggish start, the Timberwolves managed to turn things around. They fell behind by as much as 12 early in the game but surged ahead to a 57-45 halftime lead after dominating the second quarter by 20 points.
The Spurs mounted a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Minnesota 37-25, setting up an intense finish in the fourth.
The game came down to the final moments. With 18 seconds remaining, Wembanyama had a chance to tie the game, earning two free throws, but he made just one of them.

In the closing seconds, the Spurs fouled Donte DiVincenzo intentionally, and the guard also split his free throws. Trailing by two, the Spurs hoped for a clutch play from Wembanyama to either tie or win the game, but the Timberwolves’ defense thwarted his attempt, leaving Jeremy Sochan to miss a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Two Western Conference teams close in the standings faced off in Sunday’s San Antonio Spurs vs Minnesota Timberwolves matchup.
Wembanyama got off to a strong start, scoring eight points in the first quarter as the Spurs built a 33-25 lead.
In the second quarter, Donte DiVincenzo took over for the Timberwolves, scoring 11 points and helping them dominate the period 32-12.
Harrison Barnes stepped up for the Spurs during the second quarter, finishing the half with 15 points. However, the Spurs struggled overall, shooting just 34.1% in the first half and trailing 57-45 at halftime.
Wembanyama, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson led the Spurs' rally in the third quarter, where they outscored the Timberwolves by 12 points.
The Spurs held a 90-82 lead early in the fourth, but Naz Reid, Julius Randle and DiVincenzo sparked a comeback for Minnesota.
A 3-pointer from DiVincenzo gave the Timberwolves a 108-103 lead with three minutes remaining. He also hit the crucial free throw that ultimately sealed the victory, which the Spurs couldn’t respond to.
Wembanyama finished with 34 points on 30 shots in the loss, while Harrison Barnes and Devin Vassell added 23 and 22 points, respectively.
DiVincenzo led Minnesota with 26 points, while Rudy Gobert contributed 17 points and 15 rebounds. Julius Randle chipped in 16 points, Anthony Edwards scored 14 points and Jaden McDaniels had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
