Scoot Henderson has become one of the top prospects for the 2023 NBA draft. While plenty of fans are smitten by the talent of Victor Wembanyama, Henderson isn't going down without a fight.

NBA fans are starting to educate themselves about some of the potential top prospects for the upcoming NBA draft class. International big man Victor Wembanyama has become the runaway favorite to be the first overall selection. But right behind him is G League Ignite point guard Scoot Henderson.

In any other draft class, Henderson would be a slam dunk selection to go first overall. He has the tools to be a franchise-altering floor general and the athleticism and playmaking ability to be a dangerous threat on the offensive side of the ball.

Although many think it's only a matter of time before Wembanyama hears his name called first, Henderson isn't letting that bother him.

Speaking recently to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype, Scoot Henderson said he's determined to be number one:

“I’m blessed to be in the position I am for sure. I want to be No. 1. It’s my competitive spirit. I’m itching to be No. 1 in whatever I do, whether it’s badminton, pickleball, or whatever it is, I want to win. Second is great as well, but No. 1 is the goal”

In any other NBA draft class, Scoot Henderson would be a runaway favorite to hear his name called first on draft night. Unfortunately, for Henderson, Victor Wembanyama is most likely going to earn that accomplishment.

Henderson is in his second season with G League Ignite. He's continued to impress NBA scouts with his speed and overall feel for the game. Listed at 6'3", he has the size and physicality to be a franchise building block as a point guard.

In six games this season, the player is averaging 21.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. He is also shooting 47.6% from the field and 47.1% from three-point range.

Henderson suffered a nasal fracture earlier in the season, which resulted in the talented guard missing three weeks while in concussion protocol. G League officials have stated that Henderson is being held out due to "an abundance of caution."

Some have suggested that Henderson might not play again this year, as he's all but assured of being a top-3 pick. G League officials have since shown down that idea "emphatically."
